2019-12-19

The four-day Web Summit 2019 opened in Lisbon on Tuesday, hitting a record high with over 70,000 participants from 163 countries.

"If we look at 10 years from now, the only thing we can be sure of is that the pace of change will be even faster," said Pedro Siza Vieira, Portuguese minister of economy and digital transition, at the opening ceremony of the event.

Addressing the audience as a key speaker, Guo Ping, rotating chairman of China's tech giant Huawei, said that the 5G technology will bring fundamental changes to human society.

Guo said that his company will push forward 1+8+N, a smart device ecosystem for all scenarios, and its programs of TrackAI, the AI-based tracking technology with an aim to help diagnose early signs of blindness in young children.

He reiterated the strategy of his company to create two platforms for mobile devices and cloud -- the Huawei Mobile Systems and ModelArts, a one-stop development platform for AI developers.

Over 1,200 speakers will attend the Web Summit in Portugal and speak on the 22 stages throughout the event.

Founded in 2009 in Ireland, the Web Summit is considered one of the world's largest technology, innovation and entrepreneurship events.
